A LETTER FROM OUR BOARD.....

“My sisters, my daughters, my friends, find your voice”

--- Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, (the first democratically elected female Liberian president, upon collecting her Nobel Peace Prize 2011.)

DO YOU BELIEVE WOMEN’S VOICES ARE IMPORTANT?

DO YOU BELIEVE MEN AND WOMEN SHOULD HAVE EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES?

DO YOU BELIEVE THAT THE ARTS ARE A VITAL PART OF OUR SOCIETY?

If you answered yes to these questions, you may be interested to know that women buy 70% of the theater tickets.  Comprise 60% of the audience, yet only 20% of all working professionals in live stage performances are women.  80% are men.

What does this mean?  WOMEN ARE NOT RECEIVING EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES, AND YOU ARE NOT SEEING A BALANCED PERSPECTIVE IN THE WORK THAT IS PRESENTED.

T Performing Arts is not just about entertainment. It’s a reflection of who we are in our culture, communities, as well as individuals in the world.

Right now you have a choice.  You can stop reading and continue to live your life by the status quo and in doing so, accept that NOTHING CHANGES. But why not take this opportunity to make a difference?

“Well-behaved women seldom make history” --- Laurel Thatcher Ulrich
